Osama Picks A Honey of A Successor
A mysterious, one-eyed Palestinian honey salesman has emerged as the likely successor to Osama bin Laden to carry on the global holy war if bin Laden is captured or killed.
U.S. military and intelligence officials told The Post last night that they've received information from recently seized documents and interviews with a captured al Qaeda terror camp director that bin Laden has drawn up extensive plans for a succession of power to ensure that al Qaeda will continue its mission of mayhem.
The new information, which includes a copy of a succession plan now in the hands of the CIA, indicates that shortly after the Sept. 11 atrocities, bin Laden drew up plans for a handful of key advisers to slip out of Afghanistan in order to reorganize al Qaeda's global operations from other countries.
Sources said the man tapped to lead al Qaeda, if bin Laden is killed or captured, is Zainul al-bideen Abu Zubaida, who served as al Qaeda's chief recruiter, trainer of terrorists, and liaison between bin Laden and terrorist cells around the world.
"He's the field general of al Qaeda. He's the man who can reactivate the al Qaeda cells around the world. He knows where the money is. He's a very dangerous man and someone we need to get our hands on," former CIA counterterrorism director Vincent Cannistraro told The Post last night.
