That is not because of 3G, that is because of location based services....

I have generally thought that applications are going to be far more important than data rates. Color screens, GPS, Bluetooth, and BREW/Java will help drive those applications.

As for applications that need higher data rates. The first that comes to mind is the integrated camera/handset. The first generation will be very low res so they might be able to get by with 20Kbps....but like everything else you will start to see higher resolution models start to come to market. The second and third generation models of these phones will make use of the higher data rates provided by 1xrtt.

Still in general, I am going to value the features associated with 3G phones more than the exact data speed itself. Of course, this view is only from applications based on the handset. For internet surfing (from a laptop), I think 56Kbps is a minimum.
