To get to $200 a share would require an enormous upswing in revenue, margin expansion, and earnings growth reflected in the increased revenue. In other words, raw powerful growth with no atmospherics such as pension tricks, tax tactics, re-booking write-downs, and other "blue smoke and mirrors" activities that many analysts have accused IBM of doing whether fairly or not. FWIW, I see the 140 range as the current upper end of a trading channel since this would meet most analysts upside expectations. But 140 could be enough for a split. I believe that the past few splits have been below a 200 dollar price but I don't recall. And at 70 per share post split IBM would still trade above what most other technology stocks trade at so it might still look "rich" even at the split level. Maybe one of the others on the thread can comment on that.
OT: I don't work at IBM.
