The point is that I think most of them probably didn't put much into their 401-K's, given the caps on 401-K contributions (especially if you calculate them after tax). Furthermore, I don't think a very high percentage of the people eligible to participate in 401-K's do so fully, and many of the ones who do probably can afford to lose them.

Much of the apparent "loss" was probably merely unwinding paper gains in ENE, too.

It's bad, but I don't think it's as bad as some seem to think.

But that's JMHO.
