People also get blinded by the company propaganda. Badmouthing your company is bad for your career, so most people only hear positive things. Also, most people are in very small niches within the company so they never see the whole market / financial picture.

Something strange, in those Ford plants, all of those poeple are busy all day long on the line, they aren't just sitting there waiting for another car to go through (at least I dont think). Must be strange to be busy at peak productivity then have your boss call you in and lay you off. Things may look like they are going well but turn out not to be.
