So who's to blame? Some deity? If not a deity, the Jews who did not to try to escape, Hitler, the non Jewish Germans for not stopping Hitler. Who? All had free will....all made choices.....and those choices resulted in the holocast. Personally, I don't think blame is the issue here.

Well, put it this way- if I were God, I wouldn't have allowed 11 million to be killed in the Holocaust, so if there's a God, he sure is an a**hole.

Z, by your standards.......it seems you want a god who exhibits human characteristics and will step in when things get out of control. You want him to control and manipulate much like we do in our external as well as personal affairs. Frankly, if I were omnipotent and had created a race of sentient beings, I would interfere minimally. Its clear throughout history unfortunately that humans learn best from our mistakes. We don't always have the foresight to avoid problems ahead of time.

The horror of the holocaust has so scarred our collective psyche, its not ever likely to happen ever again. It will most likely be the last of this type of genocide this world will ever see perpetrated by other humans. It also has had the added side effect of reducing the patriotic fervor of a particularly aggressive culture.....the Germans.

Was the holocaust deaths worth the saving of millions of future souls from genocide?
