Your flights of fantasy are always entertaining. Unfortunately, your vision of Segway-based city travel will not come to pass in the US. Such technologies may be implemented in societies with high population densities and a more collective social consciousness (e.g. Japan, Denmark), but not in the US. And as for the pneumatic mass transit thing, well, enough said. Americans value too highly their ability to act (travel) independently. The technologies that will make a difference in the US in the 21st century are less prosaic:
1) Incremental improvements in the 4 cycle internal combustion engine.
2) Improved battery technology - higher power density, improved ability to deep cycle.
3) The hydrogen fuel cell (maybe).
4) Small, efficient, inexpensive gas turbine engines.
5) Improved GPS-based navigation systems.

Americans will travel this century in:
1) SUVs (surprise) with high performance hybrid propulsion systems achieving 50mpg.

2) Small (100 seats --> 50 seats), efficient commercial jets flying point to point routes under Free Flight rules.

3) Small (10 to 20 seat), efficient jets flying as air taxis.
