Two other positive factors are (1) tighter control over the hardware and OS reduces the potential for conflicts and makes integrating features like the iPod/iMusic much simpler; and (2) most users don't need (but may want) more speed for their applications.

Of course another negative factor in addition to the cost is the much smaller range of choices in hardware. "Any color you want as long as it's black."

I liked the cubes but the market certainly didn't and remain unsure about the new iMac's style - mostly due to the large base and a personal disfavor with LCDs (they always seem to be concave to me).
