All societies require some degree of conformity of their members. Within these societies are voluntary organizations that require yet more conformity. But being voluntary, any member has the option of walking out.
Look, disappearing and faking amnesia (assuming that's what he did) were not the only options open to that guy. For one thing, he COULD have stood like a man, quit his job as pastor, announced he was gay, granted his wife a divorce if she wanted one, started over, and paid child support to support HIS kids. People do do that sort thing, you know. It isn't easy, but it's honest, and nobody gets out of life for free.
If you're implying that religious people are all unthinking, nasty brutes, I've got to dispute that too. Some are; most aren't. And for the record, I'm somewhere in the area of atheist/agnostic myself. |
