A bit of information about future roadmaps

C't (processor guru Michael Stiller) gives a preview of expected processor releases this year. While there are no really substantial news I'd like to mention a few points:

- Michael Stiller believes that it is rather questionable whether Intel will reach 3 GHz for the P4 by year's end (as it has been promised by Barret).

- Intel P4 chipsets for DDR333 will be released in Q2 (Brookdale-E and Brookdale-G with integrated graphics).

- Intel will release 2 dual-channel-DDR chipsets for 533 MHz system bus: Granite Bay (Pentium 4) and Placer (Prestonia). There will also be similar chipsets from SiS (SiS660 and others). And of course, there is Tehama-E for Rambus-PC1066.

- Thoroughbred will be released in Q1 at 1.733 GHz. 1.8 Ghz will follow in Q2.

- VIA will release a lot of new cores, beginning with Mobile C5M (Ezra T) reaching up to 1 GHz.

- Samsung will produce PC1200-Rambus-RIMS at year's end. Already in summer, Samsung will release RIM modules with 32-bit, thereby doubling the bandwidth. Rambus itself will introduce QRSL (Quad Rambus Signal Level).

See heise.de (in German).

IMHO, seeing all these activities in the field of dual-channel-DDR chipsets (including nForce, of course), AMD should NOT release Clawhammer with single channel support only. Future mobile or "Duron" <g> versions of Clawhammer may be equipped with only single channel memory access, but PLEASE, AMD, PLEASE don't castrate Clawhammer in this regard!!!!!
