Don't be overly concerned about snakes. Travelled the jungles etc. lots and never saw one. ( Fer de Lance and Coral snake) Saw a couple run over on the roads though. You use caution when in the forests as you step over logs etc. that you don't surprise something snuggled into the log edge or rock on the other side. Snakes conjure up all sorts of horrible images but its a similar thing as the danger of bears in Ontario. Lots of stories but I have lived in the northern boonies all my life and never had an incident or known anyone that has.
