Allegro Resort Papagayo.
Where exactly is that, near what centre or area? Is it near Jaco Beach or Manuel Antonio for example. If I know
exactly then I can comment on your prosed itinerary and travel time feasibility etc.
When in San Jose, be VERY careful of your car for break in. Nothing should be left in view (nothing) , use the trunk
and be careful where you park it. Also, pick pockets abound in San Jose Central park etc. Make sure your wallet is
deep in your front pants pocket. Outside of San Jose the vandalism and petty theft drop off dramatically. When you
arrive, where do you fly into. Are you overnight in San Jose or straight to your resort? If you only go for a short stay
(one week) then travel time to attractions and viewing time are VERY limited. Travel is quite slow. Arenal volcano is
interesting and each hr. it does a minor belch that is impressive. (smoke at the peak and a roar) I recommend
Arenal. You might want to consider renting a 4 wheel drive vehicle. Monte Verde Cloud forest is also a good
attraction although I personally never went to it. We have travelled by vehicle from San Jose over the mts. to Golfito
and the height goes to 10,000 ft. So, we hit cloud forests on that trip.
Puntarenas is unspectacular.
You will get about 345 colones to the USdollar.
quote.bloomberg.com.
Colones can usually be exchanged for US$ at your hotel/resort.
Away from your resort, not many will know English. You will have to be outgoing and friendly and use lots of sign
language etc. The people are friendly. Use a Canadian flag pin on your lapel. (they won't think you're American)
Canadians are regarded better than Americans even though they won't be ignorant to Americans.
Sometimes it is easier to get a taxi to take you on a tour rather than rent a car. (Cars are expensive)
Wandering from the resort...generally its safe but use your head....careful at night and don't flout your affluence
anytime. Don't forget, at any time you're carrying a couple of months of their earnings on you.
I'm waiting to know exactly where your destination is before recommending attractions. I know many but they have to
be within your reach.
I'd recommend you decide quickly on your stay length. That makes all the difference.
Based on what you're telling me, I'd go for two weeks then many more opportunities open up to you.
Unitl later
