Frankly, no scarier than the odds of getting crunched in a pile of metal and glass out on the highway every day. We could eliminate most road deaths by forcing everyone onto public transportation or bicycles. We could eliminate the container threat by stepping up security and drastically reducing the level of imported goods we allow to come in via those containers.

Both would wreck our economy.

We could eliminate thousands of deaths due to human errors in hospitals by spending much, much more on medical staff and facilities.

Again, it would hurt our economy.

We face all kinds of threats every day. We make policy decisions based on risk/reward and live with the consequences. We have been vulnerable to major terrorist attacks for decades. Funny how it took the press 40-50 years to pay attention.

Did I mention we kill hundreds of thousands of our fellow citizens every year as a result of those choices?

The odds of getting wounded or killed in a terrorist act or far less than the other hazards I outlined above. Personally, I don't lose sleep over any of them.

Being alive puts you at certain risk for death. But the benefits are pretty nice....
