Joseph, Re: "specifically, what do you expect e.g. from P4 @ 2.2 GHZ and beyond"

Well, the 2.2GHz Pentium 4 isn't likely to continue outperforming AMD's model 2200+ Athlon XP, whenever they get around to launching it. However, if the trend continues for Intel processors outscaling AMD's model numbers, then I would expect a 2.4GHz Pentium 4 to be that much more competitive against a model 2400+ Athlon XP, and a 2.6GHz Pentium 4 to perhaps even outperform a model 2600+ Athlon XP. And this doesn't even include the faster front side bus that Intel will be implementing later this year. Eventually, AMD will either have to reconsider their model number scheme, or drop it altogether. Maybe they are just content to keep the scheme until Clawhammer launches, and then let the better IPC justify their continuing trend. But that's if Intel doesn't slaughter them in marketing before then.
