printing money doesn't help companies that are burning up cash from their stock offerings, their bond issues, or their private funding. a lot of them shot their wad in December with sales puffery, and started running out of cash by April.

there was also a squeeze on consumer spending from high gasoline prices and utility bills. Detroit needs to sell gas guzzlers or sell a lot of high interest car loans to stay in the black.
