Ralfph, not to criticize your idea, but for the Argentines, buying gold is already 40% too late ... unless they can still withdraw their usd in usd ... The time to buy gold was before the devaluation... I live overseas and exchange rates are a constant thought in my mind. I diversify some assets in different paper but also have some physical , just in case. It allows you to take some risks when they need to be taken knowing you have a solid foundation to back you up. In case of devaluation ( and there is a rumored one about Japan where i live) the moment the currency is devalued buying gold is suddenly a lot more expensive, so you have to be prepared before hand. Just my personal opinion.
