Yep, as did Willie Morris who made Harper's very interesting for four or five years in the late 60s early 70s. Also, to get a bit esoteric, Ronnie Dugger; etc. And you cannot understand John Silber (past president of Boston University, a hero to many neo-cons,and William Bennett's boss before he joined the Regean administration in the 80s) unless you read Ronnie's book, Our Invaded Universities: Form, Reform, and New Starts on corporate control of the University of Texas in the 50s, 60s, and early 70s. Interesting irony to the story is that Silber was, ambiguously, one of the good guys.
If you want to understand Texas politics, you cannot do so unless you read The Texas Observer. jmho, as they say.
