Re: I would think that the L3 cache, as well as Hyperthreading, ought to put Foster into a whole new performance class

A big L3 and hyperthreading could bring Foster's IPC up to Athlon XP levels (early results of hyperthreading were very disappointing, but will surely improve).

But Intel's big cache chips always max out at about 25% lower clock speed than their small cache chips, which would bring the clock of Foster down to Athlon XP levels.

So the $2,000 to $4,000 big cache Foster can reasonably be expected to run at about the same clock speed and IPC of the 80mm2 Athlon XP.

How big will the large cache Foster be and how many saleable chips will Intel get per wafer?
