Good Posting, MQ! Governments' most successful trick is to make Village Idiots all world over believe in "free" infrastructure. The populace ended up paying much more for those "free" infrastructure than could cost if they weren't "free". The demise of the this dangerous anachronism, the nation-state, started when they no longer could provide the "free" infrastructure. As a result they resorted to privatization an de-regulation with the obvious results we have witnessed on the fuck ups of public utilities. I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop.
