did you run wire (cabling) between the
computers or use something wireless?

I ran a Cat 5 cable and crimped on the connectors.
Being the techno geek that I am I was tempted to go wireless.
The components were not much more expensive and figured it
would be cool if I wanted to take my laptop from work and back
it up while sitting on the couch...
But then I figured the wired system would unsure privacy and
less problems with interference.
Not to mention that I have several 1000 feet of the cable lying
around my shop...

The components I used are made by LINKSYS.
All the IP addresses and other stuff were assigned by the 4 port hub.
It even recognized my cable modem and was able to find the internet
on it's own...
It has a built in firewall and I downloaded additional firewall protection
to help prevent hackers from playing games with my equipment.

I also want to get some virus protection.
Thinking about either McAffee or the one by Norton.

Does anyone have a preference?
Dalin, which do you use? Have a favorite?

I intend on installing a similar system at work and would like to be able
to share files there and perhaps even print things out from either location
if I need to, instead of using the fax or e-mail attachments.

The next toy I may get for myself is a component that attaches to my
stereo equipment and connects to the network.
Then I could store all my CD's on my PC and scroll down and find a playlist
that I put together and pump out the music through the good speakers.

But none of that's gonna happen until I figure out how to get my PC to see
my wifes...

Back to work...
