Xilinx Expects to Win More Business With New Low-Power Programmable Chips
New Breakthrough Technology in Low-Power Chips Targeted For Information Appliance Industry

SAN JOSE, Calif., Jan. 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Xilinx, Inc. (Nasdaq: XLNX) today embarked on an initiative to assume a leadership position and increase its penetration in the $44.4 billion dollar information appliance industry.* Xilinx new low-power CoolRunner-II chips offer breakthrough high-performance technology for today's information appliances such as PDAs, smart phones, digital cameras, home audio, Internet gaming and wireless devices. The new line is the only programmable device designed specifically to address this segment and supports the company's drive for market diversification.

``Today's introduction of our new CoolRunner-II CPLD line represents years of vision, strategic planning, and product development,'' said Wim Roelandts, president and CEO at Xilinx. ``Immediately following the Philips acquisition we challenged our engineers to develop the most technologically advanced low-power chip on the market -- and they delivered. This new line of low-power, high-performance chips will clearly place Xilinx in a leadership position among CPLD suppliers.''

Already the leading supplier of FPGAs, Xilinx stepped up its presence in the highly competitive CPLD market segment with its acquisition of the Philips XPLA line in June of 1999. Since that time the company has increased its presence in the CPLD business by nearly two-fold.
