>>the tie doesn't do anything, except choke you or rub your neck raw<<

My own theory, based on many years of observation, is that many men wear shirts which have collars that are way too tight, and that what is chafing them is the collar. It is a simple fact of life that some men get fatter as they get older, but instead of trading in the shirt for one with a bigger collar size, they refuse to admit it to themselves, and just suffer. Nothing personal, as I cannot see you on the other side of the computer screen.:)

I know a lot of lawyers who wear ties every day without complaint, but their collars are not too tight. Men's suits all look about the same - there are two basic styles, boxy and close fitting, and two basic colors, navy and grey, and there are just a few shirt colors, white and light blue, and maybe yellow or pink if you are young and flashy, so the only way to stand out is to wear a really great tie. A man who wears a well cut, well fitting suit with a really great tie looks good, and knows it.

This is very OT, sorry FL.
