Thanks for the post which confirms pretty much what I suspected.

I suspect that many of the early 1xRTT phones offered by PCS will in fact be flash upgradable to support 1xRTT data services, but that would be a gamble.

I really think that one of the reasons that GPRS carriers that have launched are holding off on active GPRS marketing campaigns is the lack of WAP 2.0 microbrowsers, MMS messaging, and Java apps and the capability to deliver them, not just the lack of content or services.

Without WAP 2.0 which adds color support and CSS (and content optimized for it) for low end mainstream phone users it is just more "WAP is Crap" and always on faster throughput (client to server) doesn't add much value.
