I think I've heard and read enough to make a fearless prediction.

Dozens of Congressional committees will get involved.

Hundreds of subpoenas will be issued.

Millions of documents will be produced.

Weeks of hearings will be held, with hundreds of hours of testimony by dozens of witnesses.

... all at great cost to the taxpayer.

After all is said and done:

Enron will be found to be in technical violation of some obscure rule(s) or statute(s).

Pretty much the same with Andersen. Some minor fines may be levied.

The same with one or more minor members of the Bush Administration.

There will be a great outcry, particularly by those running for reelection or seeking reappointment, for new regulations. Great speeches debating the merits of various courses of action will be delivered.

Before any significant new legislation or rule making is completed, some other crisis will envelop the country, and activity on this issue will go to the "back burner."

Nothing will happen except for the great expenditure mentioned earlier.

All JMHO.
