I think the public is wise to the media. The public is smart enough to know that these companies give money to both sides, and they are not going to be surprised that the phone calls were made by Enron requesting help. They are going to want to know what happened in response to the phone calls. If the answer is "nothing", then the media can play with themselves all they want over it, the public won't care.

Clinton's people would have been out there responding to such pleas for help in an inappropriate manner. I remember one case where a friend of Bill had a matter in litigation with one of the major studios, and Bill or one of his cronies made a phone call suggesting that it would be good if the case settled. And settle it did, on terms favorable to Bill's friend.

Have more faith in your fellow Americans. <g>
