Intel Capital invests primarily in PRIVATE companies, so I'm not sure any one quarter is very indicative of the success or failure of that effort. Private equity is, by nature, a very illiquid sort of investing, so you might expect the returns to be pretty volatile and risky. The expectation is that the average returns are pretty good and better than you might get in other, more liquid, less risky securities.

It is still far from a great environment for start-up companies.
