Premenos Ships New Version of EC Software

Tuesday July 1 4:02 PM EDT

Documents of Any Type Supported With New Mapping Feature

CONCORD, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 1, 1997--Premenos, a leading provider of electronic commerce solutions for established and emerging trading communities, today announced the general availability of EDI/Open version 3.1, the latest release of its EDI translation software for UNIX and NT platforms.

EDI/Open v3.1 offers application to application mapping and significant performance improvements. Application to
application mapping allows users to map documents between applications without translating the data into an EDI standard format such as ANSI X12. For example, customer records from a legacy mainframe application could be mapped and translated directly into the files of a different client/server application.

``A number of our trading partners send us data in formats different than those outlined by EDI standards,'' said Robert Johnson, business process specialist of GTE Supply. ``For example, some of our GTE offices use their own purchase order format. We currently have two different business processes supporting the two types of
documents -- one for EDI and one for non-EDI. Application to application mapping will allow us to integrate these
non-EDI documents into our EDI program, allowing us to streamline
our business processes. This gives us a more
integrated electronic commerce solution.''

Part of the pre-release testing of EDI/Open v3.1 included a project with Oracle Corporation, a leading database and application software company. This Premenos customer uses EDI/Open v3.1 to support high volume document exchange with third party fulfillment companies that ship Oracle software, documentation and collateral.

``The performance of EDI/Open v3.1 exceeded our requirements for meeting our peak volume during our recently
completed year end close,'' said Brock Blatter, director of Information Technology at Oracle. ``We were very impressed with the commitment from Premenos to help us develop and deliver a new EDI solution.''
