RE:"If Intel could ship 2GHZ to 2.6GHZ, they could put a lot more pressure on AMD than they will if they are shipping 1600MHZ to 2200MHZ."

That's what I was thinking but apparently Intel doesn't want to do that or can't do it right now. Of course by offering those lower Mhz chips Intel does increase the number of salable chips and the Northwood die is rather large...

I think you're both missing a very important point here... you're assuming that Intel isn't selling everything it produces at the current prices. Why offer a 2.6GHz chip a $500 when you can get $500 for a 2.2GHz chip? Any higher speed chips can be stockpiled for later release, so you get $500 for 2.2, 2.4, and 2.6GHz chips.

To try and "put the screws" to AMD using the method you and Dan seem to advocate would indeed really hurt AMD in the short run, but how would it help Intel in the long run? I don't see that it would help them at all at this point.

0.13 micron is still ramping, but the 0.13 / 0.18 volume crossover hasn't happened yet to my knowledge (we may learn more at today's CC).

Finally, the last thing Intel wants to do is cause a supply shortage. Jumping 3 or 4 speed grades is sure to do that, and it makes OEM's unhappy to boot because it obsoletes any of their existing inventory. A company that cares about its customers at all levels just doesn't do business like that.
