I have started looking for a 529 fund. I was first leaning to an education IRA but the 529 looks very flexible from a structural standpoint

I would like to find a 529 that could be self-managed rather than limited to a series of mutual funds. I note etrade uses New Mexico's plan for its offering. Any info would be appreciated here.

In the meantime I have been thinking about who should manage the fund. We already have a situation where our first grandson will have three funds managed respectively by maternal GP's, paternal GP's and parents. This seems like a big diversion of focus. I am looking for flexible investment options and a single fund. Other thoughts on this topic?

Also leaning to someone like etrade as I visit their site often and could more easily manage such a fund.
