I would say that your argument would be well supported if, in fact, Nextel did rip out their iDEN network in favor of a 1xrTT solution. For whatever their reasons, Nextel in the end recanted.

I am not going to deny that it will be much cheaper for existing IS95 carriers to upgrade to 1xrTT/CDMA2000.

For others, I really don't have the information to make an "informed" decision.

However, if I was looking to purchase wireless carriers, I would focus more on those that provide CDMA and I might even consider buying VZ for VZ Wireless.
