Just the numbers auger that there is some kind of life out there somewhere. True the light speed barrier makes communications tedious and costly, to say nothing of the travel problems since it would be hard to make a ship travel at much more than even 1% of light speed.
That said, there is no reason that this galaxy could not have been explored at 1% of light speed in a few million years by an exploration minded race.

Bill, you have developed a construct that makes plausible the possibility that aliens are among us. Religious people are also capable of developing a construct supporting their belief that God exists.

Both require some faith.
