Apple is going to sell a ton of those new high-end iMacs at their $1799 price.

That is the part I'm not so sure about. Apple thought they were going to sell a ton of expensive cubes because they were "oh-so-cool". They didn't.

IMHO there is only about 300K hardcore ditto heads who will buy an expensive iMac. Those will be cleared over the next two-three months. After that they are going to have to chase the more value conscious customer (which is not quite the same as the bottom end, which Apple, right or wrong has chosen to forego).

You cannot buy a computer from any vendor that matches the new high-end iMac's specs.

Just the page alone that you listed has five computers that match the iMac, if you exclude bogus categories like portability, desk space (nowadays towers sit under the desk), photo management software and "all specs easily available".....They darn nearly added a category "silver on white apple logo? iMac:y Dell:N Gateway:N HP:N..."
