Judicial Watch joins the fray. JUDICIAL WATCH SUES BUSH ADMINISTRATION OVER ENRON DOCUMENTS Bush Administration Agencies Obstruct Freedom of Information Act Process (Washington, DC) Judicial Watch, the public interest law firm that investigates and prosecutes government corruption and abuse, said today that it has filed lawsuits against Bush Administration agencies for their failure to provide documents under the Freedom of Information Act (“FOIA”) concerning the bourgeoning Enron scandal. The Enron Corporation’s recent bankruptcy is the largest in U.S. history, and has left thousands of employees and investors unemployed and penniless. Enron Chairman Kenneth Lay was a top financial supporter of President George W. Bush’s presidential campaign. The corporation and its top executives have a history of contributing heavily to both major political parties. More than 250 members of Congress received political contributions from the now bankrupt energy company. Judicial Watch has been probing the Enron matter since the Fall of 2001. In a related case, Judicial Watch has also filed suit against the Bush Administration over Vice President Cheney’s National Energy Policy Development Group (“EPDG”) – whose closed session meetings were conducted in violation for the Federal Advisory Committee Act – just as Hillary Clinton attempted to illegally design a scheme nationalizing the country’s healthcare system in secret under the criminal Clinton-Gore Administration. Energy industry executives, to include Enron officials, are believed to have improperly participated in EPDG meetings. In addition to this lawsuit concerning “stonewalling” over FOIA document production, Judicial Watch is considering action on behalf of Enron investors and employees in a derivative action suit. “Enron executives bailed out of the troubled firm with bonuses and their investments intact. The ‘little guy’ was left holding the bag for the executive’s criminal negligence.
