Alomex re: Your IBM comparison

I urge you to e-mail the specs (or at least the URL) for the LCD IBM you found that you claim is equivalent to the new SuperDrive iMac to that site's author. He is genuinely interested in presenting the most valid comparisons possible, and spends rather a large amount of time researching these issues to the best of his considerable abilities.

It is not enough for you in this situation to say that you found such-and-such that compares favorably to the models he chose, without presenting details. Contrary to your experience, I spent several minutes on IBM's website myself and configured two systems (NetVista M and X series) with similar specs to the new SuperDrive iMac, and wasn't able to come anywhere close to its price. This is largely because IBM charges so much money for a 15" LCD ($389 extra) and for a DVD-RAM drive ($404 extra).

For instance, here are the specs for the NetVista M machine I configured on IBM's website:

1.6 GHz Pentium 4, 256 MB RAM, 60 GB HD, Altec Lansing 2pc Speaker System, DVD-RAM w/ DVD-R (rambo), 32MB NVidia GeForce2 MX AGP Graphics Adapter, T545 15.1 inch Hybrid Flat Panel. Total price: $1744 + $549 = $2293

Methinks you aren't bothering to compare apples to apples, so to speak.

By the way, what "reply to Allen" are you referring to? I cannot find one that you have made to him on this issue at all.
