wbmw, you are correct about the 2Ghz figure since it was mentioned that the Hammer at 2Ghz would 3x faster than the Athlon Classic at 1Ghz. I think this comment was made AFTER the mustang had already slipped and after the P4 was introed so my guess is that the original hammer design was probably going to be introed at lower Mhz. The P4 threw a monkey wrench into AMDs plans.

p.s. why do you think the hammer is taking so much longer to develop than the Athlon did? The Athlon was just as complicated a cpu for its day and it was the first such design for AMD. K8 should have been easier for them.
