RE: www.foreign affairs.org vs. www.foreignaffairs.com

Kev,

I think practically everyone happened across that little family secret a long time ago.

Autocomplete on my browser appends "com" whenever I type simply type "foreignaffairs".

I've presumed since Day One on this thread that anyone accessing the www.foreignaffairs.org website would quickly stumble onto the .com site and would thus now be well aware of the situation -- kind of an off color joke we've all heard (or heard about).

I suppose I could caution people about on it in the thread header but that strikes me as a little too patronizing.

Sadly, I have no doubt that students of all ages have been blindsided by this unfortunate situation for which I see NO inexpensive remedy.

John: to kill these parasite scripts, exit from your browser and start over. At least that's the easiest thing on my machine.

I've examined the source code running on the controller window and, unfortunately, if you are running Windows (which I'm not) this script tries to download an ActiveX plug-in into your machine (thank you so much Microsoft). Therefore you need to have the security options set to the next to the highest or the highest level in your browser.

The downloaded "Linkzilla" plug-in will try to insert several sites into your favorites list according to the article I posted yesterday.

The technology supplier gets 25 cents from the licensing website for each successful download.

So be careful out there -- there's a 25 cent bounty on you...
