Hi noj,

While this is indeed a field that I find myself becoming increasingly interested in, it's hardly one that I could comment on with authority or specificity, as to each of the architectures and models listed in the referenced posts. There are simply too many competing flavors, mostly tied to legacy telephony models and targeted at the largest of the incumbent carriers, for obvious reasons. And when that is not the case, they are steeped in proprietary technologies that make it horrendously difficult for them to scale to the ubiquity that would be required in order to appeal to mass markets in a profitable way, short of something miraculous occurring, or mandated by law. I'm not referring to future mobile and portable models here, as much as those which have come before.

I find myself echoing what I've just completed reading in a Shosteck report on the topic, which you might find to be an interesting read, as well:
