What was my crime, that warranted a personal attack by you?
Sorry, didn't realize your feelings were that easily hurt. You wouldn't make a very good Palestinian, those guys have to be inured to tank tracks and having all their property stolen from them. Your style of interpreting the truth is Goebbles imho, and I have read several of his speeches here.
[edit..this link is more appropriate. -g-] calvin.edu [edit edit OK, Goebbles was pretty good, with propaganda]
Back to your question...
I had said that Israel had been attacked for decades by Palestinians without provocation. This is historically true.
That's odd, my interpretation of history is that Israel would often attack preemptively . They had too be cause they were out numbered. Point is...your wrong.
foreignaffairs.org Embedded in mamlakhtiyut was the curious, pervasive Israeli schizophrenia about strengths and accomplishments, on the one hand, and weaknesses and fears, on the other. Desperately afraid of schism and divided authority, Ben-Gurion ordered troops from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to open fire in the midst of the War of Independence on a ship carrying sorely needed arms for the right-wing Irgun Tzvai Leumi militia. Anxious to create a common culture among a polyglot nation of immigrants, he devoted himself in retirement to the sponsorship of a national Bible quiz. Fearful of the new nation's ability to endure civilian losses, Ben-Gurion cultivated Israel's distinctively audacious and aggressive military style -- preemptive war, and swift retaliation for terrorist raids. Worried, even at that early stage, about the split between religious and secular Jews, he accepted the establishment of religion through a publicly supported chief rabbinate. In the nerve-racking spring of 1967, retired from public life but horrified at the prospect of conducting a war without the great powers' support, he brought Yitzhak Rabin, then chief of staff of the IDF, close to a breakdown by denouncing the government's policy as likely to lead "to the destruction of the Third Temple."
some examples...(there are loads of them) Fact is Israels policies, for what ever reasons, are provocative in my understanding the word..
hartford-hwp.com The return of the "iron fist" policy:" Israeli military escalates aggression against Palestinian civilians From the Palestinian Society for the Protection of Human Rights and the Environment 14 July, 1997 The cities of Bethlehem and Hebron have been targeted by the Israeli military for the return of the brutal military "Iron Fist" policy, once condemned worldwide. In Bethlehem, the situation is becoming increasingly unstable. Daily clashes, which began a week ago, have resulted in dozens wounded and contributed to an already very tense situation. In the past several days, undercover Israeli units infiltrated the Palestinian-controlled Area A in Bethlehem and kidnapped civilians and members of the Palestinian Authority, adding to the climate of terror and instability. In addition a LAW field researcher obtained the affidavit of one civilian, Mohammed Ali Mohammed Salah, 21 years-old from el Khader village near Bethlehem, who was taken from his taxi by Israeli soldiers on July 9, brutally beaten and his legs broken.
hartford-hwp.com The year had begun with Jewish and Arab armies each staging attacks on territory held by the other side. Jewish forces, backed by the Irgun and Lehi militant groups made more progress, seizing areas alloted to the Jewish state but also conquering substantial territories allocated for the Palestinian one. Irgun and Lehi massacred scores of inhabitants of the village of Deir Yassin near Jerusalem on 9 April. Word of the massacre spread terror among Palestinians and hundreds of thousands fled to Lebanon, Egypt and the area now known as the West Bank. The Jewish armies were victorious in the Negev, Galilee, West Jerusalem and much of the coastal plain. |
