Two minutes on the IBM web site produced a computer with 15" Flat panel, DVD-RAM/DVD-R, and otherwise generally comparable specs for $1800.

I stand by that statement. I'm looking right now at an IBM Netvista A22p with 256MB RAM, speakers, DVD-RAM/DVD-R and a CD-ROM, 15" flat panel monitor for $1,866.
