I forgot about that slide. 3400+ in Q4 would be good, but I don't think it is written in stone (neither Q4, nor 3400).

However, I don't think Barton will get as high as 2.5GHz (or even 2.3GHz, for that matter).

That's why I called them "hypothetical".

I think that they will be very far between. Hammer doesn't even have a Microsoft OS at launch.

Neither did (or should I say does) Itanium. I am not too oprimistic about Windows support for any 64bit CPU prior to the next major revision (not XP servers, one after that).

However, a sufficient 64 bit Windows support for hammer is a fraction of the effort needed for Itanium, and this fraction is even smaller because MSFT can leverage a lot that has been done for Itanium. All Hammer needs performance critical parts such as memory management, parts of I/O. Everything else can run in 32bit mode. But even though the effort needed for Windoes x86-64 is very modest I have my doubts whether it will happen.
