Many dictatorships are communist. Communism is a more extreme form of socialism. Hitler and his ilk are not a more extreme form of Reagan or Newt Gingrich.

This is a great point. The media would have us believe that Hitler and Gingrich sprouted from the same seed. This same principle holds true with abortion clinic bombers, Timothy McVeigh, and other extremists.
