Fred Anderson said in a telephone interview that demand for the machine, introduced last week and to ship at the end of the month, had outstripped Apple's expectations.

This as expected. The new iMacs are cool, and likely to attract heavy demand from the established, individual-user base.

This means, as Marc or Allen pointed out that this quarter is likely to be good: lots of computers sold at a hefty margin ($1800 a pop, margin ought to be 3x that of a low end shuttle-nose iMac).
