Here's a comparison of performance by a guy who says he's unabashedly pro-Mac. Bottom line is 866Mhz G4 is about as fast as a 1.45Ghz P4:

1. In my oversimplified opinion, the G4 is somewhere in the vicinity of around 1.6x faster than a Pentium 4 at the same clockspeed.
2. In my oversimplified opinion, the Athlon is somewhere in the vicinity of around 1.4x faster than a Pentium 4 at the same clockspeed.
3. Therefore, in my oversimplified opinion, the 867 MHz G4 appx. = 1.45 GHz Pentium 4 appx. = 1 GHz Athlon.
