This is rather odd don't you think? I mean demand was there and AMD should have been able to sell all they could make yet the actual total number of processors is inexplicably low. Why? AMD's fabs should have been able to produce more processors than that without breaking a sweat. What gives?


I thought the same thing, but I figured I wouldn't fault them for it. They did exactly as I would have done, and that is increase ASPs while still selling record unit volumes. I'm sure they could have sold 8.6M units and claimed another point of market share, but the losses incurred from the falling ASPs required to sell this many units would really have made them stink in the face of Intel's positive quarter. And, with a much larger loss, they'd be in even deeper shit financially. It's probably for the best that they were able to get $90 ASPs, again, though I think Jerry gave Quantispeed far too much credit in his rant, uh... I mean speech.
