AMD cannot both ask for fair pricing, and sell as many volumes as they can make. If they kept ASPs at $60, they probably could have sold half a million or more extra units. You're not answering the question. You say you're sure they can make them. What makes you so sure? They have never made more than ~4 Million Athlons and what reason do you have to believe they can? There is always somebody somewhere who can be suckered with a discount. And moving to .13u will at least buy them a smaller die, which will increase further their current capacity. How do you know it will increase their capacity when it looks like they can't yield well with the current .18u process? Yes it will increase their potential capacity but they aren't meeting their potential yield on .18u so don't you think you're being a little generous saying they will increase capacity by moving to a new unproven process without mastering the previous generation? Either way you look at it, it's inevitable that AMD will be driving for larger volumes. They have been driving and they've been coming up short. Maybe this "Prescott" processor is it, but I haven't heard much about it, and for all I know, it'll be just another Pentium 4 shrink. Maybe you haven't heard everything? EP
