CDU/CSU leads cca 41 to 36% over current government coalition in the so-called sunday ("If there were elections next Sunday, which party would you vote for") polls. Stoiber otoh has a lot of shallows to avoid before his battleship docks in Berlin, first of them being his current stand on immigration and then his (apparent / real? / questionable anyhow) closeness to the European right right (Berlusconi & Haider). dj
