How about this. Enron paid NO TAXES in four of the last five years. They have SIX HUNDRED AND NINETY TWO subsidiaries in the Cayman islands and many others in other locations. I heard that Ken Lay pocketed $53 million last year while running Enron into bankruptcy. There's nothing like naked greed, I guess. Many other large U.S. companies use the same methods to avoid taxes. We only know about Enron because of their catastrophic failure. We'd probably never have a government deficit and we could lower taxes for regular working people if we could close the tax loopholes that these companies use. It'll probably never happen, because the lawmakers no doubt benefit from what is happening now.
