Windsock,

re: Note that AMD LOST money this quarter and does not expect to return to profitability until Q2 at the best, per Jerry "Where's Mine" Sanders.

What I meant was that they are heading in the right direction, from a shareholder perspective. It looks like they decided "We are going to charge our price, if we lose the OEM's and retail, then we'll live with that". And they did, mostly.

I remember suggesting the same strategy on the AMD Modulated thread, and being told I was nuts by the 'Droids. They figured they would lose half their business if they raised prices, that the only goal should be unit market share. I wonder what they are thinking now?

The biggest piece for AMD to regain profitability is for a return of a decent Flash market. If Intel had ~40% of their revenues in Flash, they would be in a world of hurt also.

I think AMD made a unique good marketing decision. If they keep it up (BIG IF), they may become a solid company worth considering for a long term hold.

John
