Very true.

I wonder whether Solon is or has been a parent.

One of his posts suggested that he is or had been a teacher. I was a teacher both before and after becoming a parent, and I have seen a lot of teachers as my children progressed through school. My clear experience is that teachers who are also parents have a very different -- and I believe better -- perspective than non-parents. With non-parents, it's all theory, it's all just applicable to children in just one of their aspects. Parents learn to deal with the whole child. It is a life-changing experience. Not always, of course, but I think usually for the better.

IMO that's one reason the young can be so unrealistically idealistic ( as I was in my late teens and early 20s).
