Sorry Nadine... The USS Liberty incident is relative from the perspective of Americans not being duped into believing that the Israeli "powers that be" are our sworn "allies".

They are just as self-interested as we are, and will, when those interests conflict with ours, choose to do "their own thing".

Israeli leaders understand Machiavellian politics to a high degree, imo. And being such a small nation, surrounded by enemies who have been obsessed with destroying them, I personally don't blame them, and would probably imitate some of these actions.

I certainly don't blame the average Israeli for the USS Liberty, but 34 US sailors lost their lives in that action, and the fact that the skipper of the boat is the ONLY RECENT recipient of the Medal of Honor to NOT RECEIVE it personally from the President of the United States in a public ceremony.

Remember that people thought the Watergate break in was just another burglary at first....

Little did people know.

The Liberty is important, if one to remind us that "our friends" can, and will, quickly bite our hands just as unexpectedly as will our enemies.

The only advantage now is that Israel is such a heavy recipient of US foreign aid which, in 1967, it was not.
